The Popularity of Wooden Toys is in Ascension
As toddlers and children develop it becomes increasingly important that the correct toy choices are made for them to play with. In a world that is saturated with marketing and branding of TV and Film franchises that practically brainwash children into pestering their parent for the latest crass toy that has exploded onto the market in a whirr of gaudy colours, flashing lights and ear piercing screeching noises, it is worth taking a step back and thinking about the kind of wooden toys that kept children entertained thirty to forty years ago. Television wasn't a medium that was exploited as it is today. You would get a few hours of children's television per day rather than a few children's channels everyday! Toy manufacturers had to be inventive and create their own branding and ideas rather than taking the idea of a TV show and moulding it, literally, and throwing it into the market place in a fit of publicity. Toys from a couple of generations ago often sparked a child's imagination rather defined how they should be played with. These older toys seem to be making somewhat of a comeback with wooden toys especially proving their worth both educationally and environmentally. There are many manufacturers who are having worldwide appeal because of their products quality, environmental awareness, and educational benefits. Some names that spring to mind are Plan and I'm Toy who obtain their material from sustainable source and do not exploit their workforce. Their values are sound and the toys are hard wearing meaning they can be passed on for others to use. In what was a throw away world culture it is good to see that some older values of re-using and imagination are making a comeback for the newest generation.
